Ghassoul Clay

Moroccan Lava Clay

A Moroccan stevensite smectite that adsorbs surface sebum — lacustrine, not volcanic.

About This Ingredient

A millenary “washing earth” from the Atlas — geologically a lacustrine sedimentary stevensite, over 90% smectite (Moussout, Heliyon 2020; origin: Chahi, J Sedim Res 1999).

The mechanism: smectite clays carry exceptional surface area and ion-exchange capacity — that is what adsorbs sebum fractions at product pH.

What it does not do: it is not volcanic, and it does not remineralize skin or scalp — there is no transdermal mineral delivery from a rinse-off clay. Its job is the honest deep cleanse.

Key Benefits

  1. Absorption Cleansing

Cleans by ionic exchange, not detergents. Respects the lipid mantle while removing excess.

  2. Smectite Cleanse

A lacustrine stevensite smectite (not volcanic) whose ion-exchange surface adsorbs sebum — the honest mechanism of the Atlas “washing earth” (Moussout 2020).

  3. Eraser Effect

Absorbs excess oil like a natural blotting paper, leaving hair clean, free and voluminous longer.
