Sesame Oil

Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil

A classic seed oil for surface conditioning — it does not penetrate the cortex and is not a UV filter.

About This Ingredient

Sesamum indicum seed oil — an oleic/linoleic seed oil carrying the lignans sesamol and sesamin, characterised as antioxidants in the lab.

The mechanism: surface emollience — coating, slip, friction reduction. The lignans' antioxidant and antimicrobial character is in-vitro chemistry, presented as such.

What it does not do: it does not penetrate 'beyond the surface to nourish the cortex' — bulky seed oils stay at the surface (Rele & Mohile 2003) — and it is not a biological UV filter. Tradition is voice, not evidence; the claim stops at conditioning.

Key Benefits

  1. Natural UV Protection

Acts as a botanical sunshield that blocks up to 30% of UV radiation, preventing color and protein degradation.

  2. Deep Penetration

Unlike oils that sit on the surface, sesame nourishes the cortex thanks to its unique lipid profile.

  3. Clean Scalp Feel

Sesamol and sesamin show antimicrobial character in lab studies — a clean-feel supporting role, stated at its tier.
